Oh, the weather outside is frightful, so it’s time to deck the halls with boughs of holly as you roast chestnuts on an open fire. It’s the holiday season once again: a season of never-ending sales at the mall, spending quality time with loved ones, obligatory family gatherings, eggnog binging, and (of course) getting awesome presents; instead of simply getting stuff this year, though, have you considered giving?
Not everyone has the luxury of being surrounded by friends, receiving loads of gifts, or having hot meals to fill themselves up. Instead warming their hands by the fireplace, some warm their hands by rubbing them together as they withstand the bitter cold since they have nowhere else to go. Christmas dinners? Try meals at the local soup kitchen. Complaining that you didn’t get that shirt you wanted for Christmas? Others are thankful to even receive clothes. At a time like this, the spirit of giving may be the only thing to help the needy.

If volunteering isn’t quite up your alley, why not just donate canned goods, an old coat, or your unwanted clothes that are just taking up space in the closet? Even though things like these are seemingly small gestures to us, it truly does mean the world to those in need.
